Sinn Féin TD Seán Crowe was comfortably re-elected albeit with half the first preference vote he got in 2020.
Crowe (67) has represented the constituency since 2002 with the exception of the years between 2007 and 2011. In 2020 he topped the poll with almost 30 per cent of the vote, but did not have a running mate. This year he has Cllr Niamh Whelan.
He also lost a proportion of his constituency in Fettercairn to Dublin Mid West. He first joined Sinn Féin as a 19-year-old in 1976 and was the national organiser for the Youth Against H-Block and Armagh in 1980/81.
He has served as Sinn Féin’s education spokesperson and spokesperson on foreign affairs, but did not hold a front bench position in the last Dáil. He is best known for his constituency work locally especially in relation to the issues of drug addiction.
