The Ballsbridge Hotel provided the perfect setting for a thoroughly enjoyable Facilities Management Awards 2018, where the best in the business came together to celebrate a magnificent year of growth in the industry.
Now in its fifth year, the FM Awards presented 18 accolades in total, with teams and individuals from a variety of different businesses being honoured.
What makes the awards night special is not just the fact that it offers the opportunity to reflect and celebrate a year’s worth of hard work, but it also the gives the chance to learn about some of the most interesting innovations within the industry. One such innovation, developed by Horus and BAM Facilities Management Ireland, is an intuitive device called ‘the Sentinel’ that can provide early detection for machine faults.
The Horus Sentinel gave BAM Ireland their first award of the night - Innovation in Technology and Systems – before also taking home the award for Overall Excellence in Facilities Management. Their General Manager, Micheál Keohane, was delighted; "Our team in BAM were delighted to win the Innovation Award along with Horus who developed our idea for a cognitive sensor: the Sentinel. We were honoured to also win the Overall Excellence in FM award for the Sentinel, which uses algorithms to learn patterns in machine operation via acoustics, temperature and vibration, giving early warnings and machine performance analytics."
When one considers all the unforgettable moments that were created in Croke Park over the past year, none of them would have been made possible if it was not for the hard working team that keeps the GAA's headquarters running like clockwork. They were presented with the award for FM Team of the Year.
"Looking after our 1.6 million visitors last year whilst also maintaining the highest standards of sustainability excellence is no mean feat. Croke Park is very proud of its facilities team and thankful for the recognition from our peers in facilities management with this award," said Stadium Facilities and Project Manager, Brian Conlon.
Judging co-ordinator, Pat Gaughan, was extremely impressed by the standard of entries overall: "A fantastic night and definitely one of the highlights in the Facilities Management professionals calendar. The judges were very impressed with the high calibre of awards this year which shows that the standards within FM are rising year on year. Well done and congratulations to all the winners and runners up."
