The shortlist for this year’s Green Awards has been announced, and with well over 500 attendees gathering for the event, up 12 per cent on last year's figures, it looks set to be a particularly lively evening.
One of the longest established awards events on the Irish calendar, the Green Awards were set up back in 2008. These days, everybody understands how fundamental the question of sustainability is for the future of our planet, so acknowledging all the hard work that individuals and businesses invest in this area is more important than ever.
Among those shortlisted were Pfizer Upjohn Ireland Manufacturing, who were shortlisted in two categories, for the Green Manufacturer Award and the Green Pharmaceutical Award. Nuala Kerley, the EHS team leader, said: “We’re thrilled to have been shortlisted in two categories for this year’s Green Awards. The challenge to change the way that we all do business is one that we at Pfizer take incredibly seriously. So getting recognized for all of that effort is very gratifying.”
While Manor Farm were shortlisted for the Green Food & Beverage Award. Joyce Johnston, Manor Farm’s environmental manager, said: “It’s all about sustainability for us at Manor Farm. Which is why we’ve put so much effort into developing our broiler, free range and corn fed range. Getting shortlisted for this year’s Green Awards in the Green Food & Beverage category is a huge honour for us.”
CBRE are one of this year’s sponsors. Darren Rennie, managing director at CBRE Global Workplace Solutions, said: “We’re extremely pleased to be sponsoring this year’s Green Awards. Sustainability is one of the biggest challenges that our planet has ever had to face, and it is encouraging to see companies and individuals play a part to address this. We are proud that CBRE is part of an event that recognises businesses for their efforts in developing sustainable solutions and practices.”
Another of this year’s sponsors are Naturgy. Mary Rossiter, marketing and communications manager, commented: “We’re delighted to be sponsoring the Green Awards again. All our activities at Naturgy are focused on helping Ireland and our customers meet their energy needs with more sustainable energy sources. So an evening dedicated to celebrating individuals and companies who are working to make their industries more sustainable is something we’re very happy to support.”
As ever, the judging panel is made up of a diverse group of highly respected individuals, from both here and abroad, who have all worked tirelessly towards sustainability in their chosen areas of expertise. One of the panel, Neil Menzies, who is the sustainability manager at Hibernia REIT, had this to say:
“I’m delighted to be one of the judges in this year’s Green Awards, and I’m particularly impressed with the quality of all of those who have been shortlisted this year. Narrowing them down to individual winners is going to be exceptionally challenging.”
The winners will be revealed at the event itself, which takes place on Tuesday, February 25th, at the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road, Dublin.
