The first time I broke 90 was at my favourite par 3 course, Pucks Castle. In fact I broke 80 and have since broken 70. In big boys' golf, I'm afraid the ton is still intact.

Last bit of golf equipment?

The last piece of equipment I bought was a set of discounted kids clubs for €40. Jack, my 7 year old young fella, just came down with the sports bug so he's keen to try everything.

Last time you took a golf cart and why?

Pucks Castle doesn't do golf carts.

Last time you muttered an obscenity on a golf course and why?

I swear like a deranged pirate anyway so it was quite feasibly the last time I took a shot.

Which of the Majors would you like to attend and why?

US Open. There's something about Baltusrol that appeals to me. I love the Yanks when they try and ape the posh Brit golf thing. One of Baltusrol's house rules states that "cargo pants are not considered slacks". I could see myself singing barber shop in the mixed grill room with a lot of chaps who had surnames for Christian names. Gotta be worth a visit.

Ideal golfing fourball: Who and Where?

Joe Deane, Ronnie Wood and John Magnier. Anywhere.

One last round on earth: where would it be?

Jockey Club Golf in San Isidro, outside Buenos Aires.

Ralph Lauren or Lyle & Scott?

Lyle & Scott. Still convinced I'll get back into those brit-pop skinny jumpers before I die.

Is the Titleist ProV1 worth the extra expense?

No Idea.

Best golf club food. Where?

Doral Country Club in Miami does a fairly savage breakfast. Blarney Golf Resort for steak.

Benson & Hedges.

Favourite club in times of trouble (eg 9 iron)?

Renards.

Parkland or links?

Links.

Must see golfing holiday destination?

Doonbeg is fairly spectacular.

Hidden gem (a golf course)

Schull Golf Club is a grand spot for nine summer holes.

One mulligan in Life?

Not having the house on Tiger at 6s in the Open.
