A tale of two winners and seven losers

Gordon Mills (Cork), Tom Bouchier (Dublin), Ivan Kiely (Meath), Jeff Allen (Dublin), Michael Aherne (Dublin), Peter Davis (Cork) and Peter Maher (Dublin)? What can we say? Other than: don't buy a lottery ticket this week because your luck is well and truly and hopelessly out.

All seven managers had the winners of both of last weekend's tournaments - Ian Poulter and Jose Coceres - in their line-ups but how many four-balls did they win between them? Divil a one.

Worse, only Peter Maher even made it on to our weekly leaderboard when, we fear, all seven spent Sunday night measuring the distance between themselves and Powerscourt, Co Wicklow, on their maps, planning the nippiest route so they could make a full fourball day of it.

You know what we're going to offer you as a consolation prize, don't you? Yep, the world renowned polo shirt. But that's not all. Oh no. If you cast your eyes downwards you'll see a list of the top 10 bargain buys of the year so far (all seven weeks of it) and, if you've any transfers left, you can use up two or six of them bringing in two or six of the players who've won their managers more pence per pounds spent than they ever dreamt of. Elliot Boult, for example, has won his employers 0.216 pence per every pound spent on him. This statistic means nothing to us, because we're numerically illiterate, but apparently it's very impressive. Tiger Woods, by the way, is 19th on our list of best value for money players: hopefully that stat will encourage those who've been picketing in D'Olier Street since we slapped a £6.5 million price tag on him to disperse. Peacefully.
