This is it how it works: when the Golf Masters' figures are totted up after each weekend our computer wizards press a big button and, voilα, the weekly and overall leaderboards appear on their screens. Once we have the weekly winner's team number we play back the tape of the recording of their registration so we can get their name, address and telephone number and can contact them with the good news. Simple.

Well, simple unless a dog has attempted, in a rather deafeningly, ear-splitting rowdy fashion, to register the team - Molly the dog, to be precise. "Sorry about that," said Molly's agent Paul O'Neill who calls Newcastle, Co Wicklow home. "She's mad, completely mad. I think the postman had arrived just as I was trying to enter the team and she went bonkers."

So, in summary, Molly the dog won a fourball down the road in Powerscourt after winning a ridiculously-colossal £463,750 at the British Open - thanks to Wuff Wuff Duval (£200,000), Yip Yap Langer (£107,000), Hoo Hoooow Woosnam (£107,000), Snarl Smyth (£47,750) and Grrr Kelly and Yarr Karlsson (£1,000 each).

Paul attempted to steal the limelight from Molly by claiming HE had made crucial decisions along the way like replacing Mark O'Meara with Ian Woosnam.

We know better: what we wanted to ask Molly was why did she choose Des Smyth over Paw-draig Harrington and Darren Bark - but she was unavailable for comment.
