Abandoned: For health and safety reasons
THE Ireland versus Wales women's Six Nations match was abandoned at half-time on Friday night when Scottish referee Kevin White deemed the pitch unplayable due to the freezing conditions. The main reason was confirmed as health and safety concerns. Ireland were leading 10-3.
It has become apparent the Welsh management pushed for the decision to be made by White. They had already lost two players to injury (one was definitely nothing to do with the pitch). Despite the worsening conditions, a junior girls' game was played on the surface during the interval.
The game is expected to be rescheduled for Saturday week.
Far from silent: Lievremont launches his autobiography
SHOULD be an interesting week for French players as the lead-up to the Ireland game at Stade de France coincides with the release of former coach Marc Liévremont's book :
Sélectionneur Contesté(Coach Challenged).
His perspective on the player coup during the World Cup could have Philippe Saint-André's charges discussing everything but next Saturday's game. The foreword of Lièvremont's book has been penned by Jean Dujardin, nominated for a best actor Oscar for his portrayal of a silent movie star in
The Artist, prompting the Guardian to quip: "If only he had taught Lièvremont how to keep his mouth shut he might still be in a job."
Chabal for Blues?
SEBASTIEN Chabal for Leinster? Just an idea.
It's no secret that Joe Schmidt is seeking another secondrow after Steven Sykes' return to South Africa with injury and Leo Cullen's recent achilles operation.
"We averaged 9kg a man on the Irish backline. When you have that advantage you got to use it," said Warren Gatland on the size difference yesterday.
There was a slight break in protocol on the red carpet as the two Kearney brothers, Rob and David, lined up alongside each other for the anthems despite David being a replacement.
It will surely make for a great family picture.
