The talented Helen Lacy has been cleaning up over the past 10 days or so in Wexford golf club. The nine handicapper had a comfortable victory in the weekly singles competition where her fine total of 42 points gave her a four-point cushion over second placed Dympna O'Donnell (24). Then twice in the space of four days she proved to be the tops in the gross section, first in a ninehole singles competition and then in the President's (Aidan Stafford) Prize to the Ladies played last Sunday, where her scores of 13 and 26 points respectively secured her the honours.
Top prize in the President's Prize went to Yvonne MacSweeney (22), who shot 38 points to pip 14 handicapper Margaret Atkinson by a single point, while Bernie Pierce (34) won the nine-hole competition. Also featuring in Aidan Stafford's Prize were Miriam Robinson (15) and Mary Robinson (18)- they are married to first cousins - who claimed third and fourth prizes respectively having played together during the day. Both had 36 points, with Miriam pipping Mary on a countback over the back nine.
