Hurling/Fitzgibbon cup:Univ of Limerick 1-9 Garda College 0-7: A 48th minute goal from Kilkenny's Jimmy Barron helped University of Limerick to victory over Garda in a tough and bruising Fitzgibbon Cup game at the UL campus.
Playing with the advantage of the win in the first half, University of Limerick led 0-5 to 0-2 at half-time, with three points from Conor Fitzgerald.
Garda, inspired by Dave Kennedy at centre-back, lifted their game on the changeover with points from Barry Cunningham and Owen Behan, but Barron's goal ended their challenge.
