MARK BARRY, the Limerick ,rider who has won two European bronze medals, has been dropped from the Irish Olympic three day eventing team, but will run as an individual in Atlanta with the French gelding Unisson Collonges.
The 23 year old broke his leg in a fall at the final trial in 1994 to miss the World Equestrian Games in the Hague and was then eliminated at last year's European championships when drawn number one and taking the wrong course on the steeplechase.
The team for Atlanta, which was announced yesterday, will be led by Seoul and Los Angeles veteran David Foster, who rides Duneight Carnival as the Irish pathfinder. Foster also has the grey Tilt `a' Turn for the individual which will be run as a separate competition for the first time, following complaints from the International Olympic Council that riders were eligible for two medals for one performance.
Foster is joined on the team by Olympic debutantes Virginia McGrath (The Yellow Earl) and Alfie Buller (Sir Knight). Eric Smiley, who finished 29th individually at the Barcelona Olympics, takes the number four slot with Enterprise.
