DOWN ROYAL REPORT: JIM BOLGER, still on a high after his two victories (Lush Lashes and Cuis Ghaire) at Royal Ascot last Friday, was back in the winners' enclosure with his filly Angels Story in the EBF Coolmore Stud Ulster Oaks at Down Royal yesterday.

The daughter of Galileo responded well to pressure under a terrific ride by Martin Harley and won going away by a couple of lengths from German import Dancera. Angels Story probably benefited from the rain that fell heavily on the day. Despite running a bit free early, she always seemed to have a bit in reserve.

Once she hit the front three furlongs out, a host of challengers quickly emerged but she beat them off one by one and in the end won going away.

It was a tough performance by this filly who has disappointed a bit on quick ground prior to this and she should continue to progress.

Dancera ran a huge race on her debut for Mervyn Torrens. A dual winner on good ground in her native country, she was held up early on before making good progress early in the straight, but the winner was just too good on the day.

Emotional Article got the better of a great duel with Dom Fontenail in the Britvic Northern Ireland Galway Plate Trial Handicap Chase.

The Definite Article gelding travelled close to the front throughout and apart from a slight mistake at the third last his jumping was fine. However, they all looked in trouble when the eventual third, Team Allstar, went to the front three out but Emotional Article kept plugging away and fought out a terrific duel with the runner-up from before the second last to prevail by a length.

Winning trainer Tom Taaffe said afterwards: "We thought he had a chance and we knew he was well. I don't know if he's good enough to run in the Galway Plate; there are a couple of similar chases coming up at Killarney and Tipperary."

Azana was an easy winner of the bumper and provided a first- and last-race double at the meeting for Pat Fahy and jockey Robbie McCarthy, Dani's Girl having won the first race on Friday.
