Carlow claimed their first victory in 11 years in the Leinster under-21 football championship on Saturday when they defeated Kilkenny 3-13 to 1-6 in the first round at Dr Cullen Park, Carlow.
Kilkenny's goal was scored by Michael Grace five minutes after the resumption but Carlow hit back with a goal from Thomas Walsh and two late goals from Simon Rea. However, this was anything but an impressive display by the winners.
Meanwhile, on the weekend Maurice Fitzgerald indicated he was not returning to the Kerry fold, team boss Páidí Ó Sé has been hit with a number of injuries. Seamus Moynihan was carried off with an ankle injury while playing with Glenflesk against Currow and is doubtful for Sunday's clash with Tyrone .
Barry O'Shea retired at half-time with an injury above his troublesome knee when playing for Kerins O'Rahillys as they were defeated at home 2-8 to 0-10 by a Fitzgerald-inspired St Mary's side.
The GAA's Games Administration Council have ordered Louth to bring forward next weekend's NFL Division Two A game against Limerick by 24 hours to Saturday. Limerick had requested the date change because of their dual player situation. On Sunday, their hurlers have an important league game against Wexford.
