Roddy Carr, the former Walker Cup golfer, has now settled comfortably into life in Barbados. The Caribbean climate is treating him so well that recently he took up his clubs in competition after quite a lay-off.
The Seniors Tour, which kicked off the season at the Royal Westmoreland championship course on the island had Carr playing as a guest in the pro-am event. The format was a three-ball better-ball so he didn't know his overall score but Carr modestly acknowledged that he contributed his share with a few birdies.
It was, he added "the first time in about 21 years" that he formally played in a competition. Carr is now an equity partner in the burgeoning Royal Barbados Club, which along with Royal Westmoreland and Sandy Lane comprise the three main courses on the island.
