Michael McGeady and Sam Smallwoods came up with the shots for City of Derry in the rearranged Ulster final of the Barton Shield foursomes against Holywood at Royal County Down. An excellent display by McGeady and Smallwoods defeated Alan Watt and Graham Dickson by five holes.
That tail-end result gave City of Derry's four-man team an overall two-holes victory, after their lead-off pair David Jones and Lester Moore went down by three holes to Tony Dunlop and Darren McWilliams. City of Derry, chasing a first national title at this level, will represent Ulster in next month's All-Ireland finals at Newlands, Dublin.
Meanwhile, Ballyclare's Barry Armstrong, Neil McClintock and Darren Lyttle took the top three points to defeat Roe Park in the Irish Junior Cup Ulster final at Dunmurry. The win deprived the Limavady club of a first title at this level and an Ulster double. The Piece Purcell team, winners of last year's All-Ireland title, defeated Warrenpoint, by 3-1/2 to 1-1/2.
