Wicklow won the Provincial Towns Cup for the first time since 1952 when they recorded an 11-7 aggregate victory over Delvin Castle from Westmeath.

Wicklow were favourites to lift the trophy having won 5-4 in the away leg but lost two of the first three matches on their home turf last Sunday. The middle order steadied the ship with Joe Phillips, Liam Doyle, Aidan Earls and Philip Craig all winning to secure the club's only pennant of the 1990s.

Team manager Keith Clarke also featured in two of the club's previous big wins in the Leinster Mixed Foursomes in 1985 and the Barton Cup in 1986. This time, along with co-selector Chris MacIntaggart, he steered a squad of 12 players through six rounds with earlier victories against Castlecomer, Kilcoole, Arklow, Carlow and Baltinglass.
