The disappointment was palpable in Clones yesterday following the decision to call off the Cavan Gaels v Latton tie, and the general opinion was that the curtain-raiser should not have been played.

The decision was made shortly before the start of the senior game, following a detailed pitch inspection by Down referee Colm Broderick.

"I'm personally disappointed and the club is as well in how this whole thing was handled," said Latton manager Gerry Connolly. "The Clones pitch is notorious and, with the way this whole thing has panned out, I think the Ulster Council have serious questions to answer here."
