MUCKROSS romped home 6-0 against bottom of the table Clontarf in the Leinster Senior League on Saturday it was the second 6-0 victory which Muckross posted last week. On Wednesday, Muckross had overwhelmed Genesis.

The match was a joy to behold, especially the second half. It is the way hockey should be played constant, positive attacks using the whole width of the pitch.

Patricia McHugh opened the scoring on Saturday with a goal from a short corner after five minutes. Mary Logue scored the second goal half way through the first half, off a pass from Sarah Kelleher. That was the calm before the storm in the second half.

Kelleher was again involved in the third goal. Orla Bell found the back of the net from a rebound off the goalkeeper from a Kelleher shot soon after the re start. Mary Logue scored the fourth with a penalty stroke awarded for deliberate use of the back of the stick in the circle by a Clontarf defender.

Clontarf ran out of any steam they had left half way through the second half, which let Muckross run riot. They scored two goals in the last five minutes. Cathy Johnson scored from an excellent solo run down the left wing, while captain Theresa Hurley rubbed salt into Clontarfs wounded pride with the final goal two minutes before the end.

Loreto kept themselves barely in the hunt for the league title by beating third placed Railway Union 2-1. Loreto led 2-0 at half time, and seemed uninterested in increasing their score line in the second half. They waited for Railway to come to them, rather than bringing the match to Railway.

In the only match in the Leinster Schools Senior Cup quarter finals on Saturday, Mount Anville went down to Wesley College 4-0. Wesley were in control of the match from the first whistle. Tanya Green lee scored in the first five minutes, followed by another goal by Dawn Kelly half way through the first half. Sylvia Gee scored early in the second half, while Dawn Kelly scored an excellent goal from a break from the Mount Anville circle.

To give Mount Anville due credit, they never gave up even after the fourth goal.
