LEINSTER COLLEGES SFC A: Coláiste Eoin 2-10 St Peter's College 1-8:TWO SECOND-half goals proved decisive as Coláiste Eoin, Dublin, emerged with a hard-earned victory over St Peter's College, Wexford, in Athy yesterday.
St Peter’s College showed early promise, picking off some excellent points through Rhys Clarke, Kevin Whelan and Conor Heffernan, to edge into a 0-3 to 0-1 lead.
In the second quarter Coláiste Eoin edged their way back into the game as the accuracy of midfielder Seán Moran, who struck over some delightful points along with Alex Pilkington, helped them go in level at the interval on 0-5 each.
Both sides attacked strongly on the resumption with never more than two points separating the sides. An Alex Pilkington goal 10 minutes into the second period handed Coláiste Eoin the initiative, but credit to St Peter’s who bounced right back with substitute Seán Purcell finding the net 11 minutes from the end.
Coláiste Eoin were clinging to a two-point lead entering the closing minutes. St Peter’s sought out a winning goal but in a quick counter-attack it was Séamus Doyle who found the net two minutes from the end to clinch his side’s second-round passage.
