Collins punishes wasteful Wanderers

Bray Wanderers 0 Dublin City 2:  Try as they might, Bray can't buy a win this season and the defeat here keeps them in the mire. Pat Devlin, who, it appears, may soon be handing first-team affairs over to assistant Tony McGuirk, will be less than pleased with his players. They dominated for much of the tie but squandered the match when conceding a soft goal and then a late penalty.

Both sides started at a furious pace but, despite the endeavour, it was more organised chaos than precision football. Bray shaded possession and found a useful outlet in Robbie Doyle whose speed and trickery proved a handful for City.

Midway through the first half he latched onto Colm James' through ball before crossing for David Tyrrell. Damian Brennan made a crucial intervention when contact, however slight, would have reaped rewards.

Doyle was again involved soon after, this time running onto Stephen Fox's looping ball.

The striker outmuscled Stuart Malcolm and attempted to lob goalkeeper Gary Rogers but the shot was not as well executed as perhaps he would have liked and Rogers saved.

City spent much of the half on the back foot, attempting to contain a free-running Bray side. When Dermot Keely's men did break forward, their approach work was more structured and patient than their opponents but still Bray's three-man defence proved impenetrable.

Bray were more clinical after the break and their panicked approach work gave way to a more composed style. Their pressure should have been rewarded but Tyrrell side-footed Doyle's cross against the post. Then, moments later, Tyrrell turned provider for Doyle but he skewed his shot into the ground and wide.

City then seized upon Bray's misfortune and, against the run of play, edged ahead after 59 minutes. Malcolm's ball was poorly dealt with, allowing Robbie Collins steal a march and flick the ball over Terry Masterson.

Bray then blew any chance they may have had when, with eight minutes remaining, Masterson was dismissed for pulling substitute Mark Rooney down in the box. Collins made no mistake from the spot.
