Cork let Bohemians off hook

Cork City... 1 Bohemians..

Cork City ... 1 Bohemians ... 1Bohemians must have been happy to take a point from a cracking Eircom League tie before 6,500 spectators at Turner's Cross last night, even though Cork had to play with only 10 men for the closing 30 minutes.

Cork lost George O'Callaghan after 62 minutes when he clashed with Colin Hawkins directly in front of the fourth official. Dublin referee Damien Hancock had a brief word with the official before he showed the red card, apparently because O'Callaghan had stood on the Bohemians defender.

The teams were locked together 1-1 at the time and it looked odds on that Bohemians would use their numerical advantage to create match-winning chances in the closing half-hour. But Cork defended resolutely and Bohemians failed to create an opening.

Instead it was Cork who came nearest to snatching a winner with substitute David Warren narrowly over with a shot from the edge of the area after John O'Flynn's good work, and Billy Woods was just wide with a header from a corner.

Cork seemed nervous and tense early on and they struggled to get to the pace of the game until their equaliser in the 38th minute.

A free from half-way by Declan Daly was headed across goal by Woods and Cork centreback Murray had time to chest the ball before turning it past goalkeeper Bayes.

Bohemians had taken the lead after 23 minutes. Glen Crowe gave goalkeeper Michael Devine no chance with a firm volley from six yards after an excellent move from midfield.

Fergal Harkin sent Caffrey running at Reynolds and he side-stepped the attempted tackle for an accurate cross that gave Crowe his 12th goal of the campaign.
