MEN'S HOCKEY: In Dublin, three hat-tricks in Division One and a couple in Division Two made for a high-scoring Saturday, with yesterday's games deciding who will contest the semi-finals of the Leinster Senior Cup.

David Bane grabbed three goals for Aer Lingus as they hit seven past UCD in a 10-goal league game while Peter McConnell went one better for Three Rock Rovers, against the hapless Glenanne in the league.

Glenanne clearly had an off day, going down 6-1, but yesterday they made up for it somewhat in the cup with a 4-1 win over Clontarf, with Alan Goulding netting a hat-trick.

Three Rock continued yesterday where they had left off, but not without some robust resistance from Trinity. The university side went into the second half 3-2 up before Rovers got hold of the match, with two drag flicks from Peter McConnell helping the cause.

In Division Two, Matt McCann knocked in three for Portrane, while Vaughan Hartland did the same for Avoca in their top-of-the-table win over Bray.

Finally, Cork C of I will be representing Ireland at this year's European Club Championships, and not Harlequins as reported. Also, their then international midfielder Mark Black was injured playing soccer in Garyduff and not on the hockey field.

Trusting C of I maintain their high standard and their water-based synthetic-pitch plans work out, the Munster side are, despite the defection of Black to Cork Harlequins, set for a rich future.
