CUS, who have dropped to the lower section for this season, came through their first encounter in this year's Junior Cup with a 12-0 victory over St Patrick's, Navan, at Skerries yesterday. The CUS victory was forged mainly through a strong back row in which number eight Graham Carty and open side flanker Barry Tarpey Gainey were outstanding. The Dublin side's speedy centre, Byron Dunne, raced through for the opening try just before the interval and out-half Ray Naughton added the points.

Carty drove through the St Patrick's defence from 30 metres to secure his school's victory with their second try 17 minutes into the second half.

To their credit, the Co Meath schoolboys tried valiantly to penetrate the CUS line during the final 10 minutes, but despite strong efforts by full back Philip Treacy and out-half Eoin Carroll, they failed to penetrate.
