A FAR superior CUS side easily defeated Templeogue in yesterday's Leinster Senior Cup second round tie at Sydney Parade.
CUS were delayed in opening the scoring, with Richard Dempsey missing a succession of kickable penalties after misjudging the strong wind on each occasion.
But, consistently winning the ball from the scrum and lineout, CUS finally made the break after 30 minutes by running the ball from a scrum on halfway and Neil Culkin got the ball to John Faley for the try. Dempsey added the conversion to give CUS a 7-0 halftime lead.
CUS continued to apply the pressure in the second hall, especially through the ambitious running of strongly built scrum half, Neil Culkin. The next score came after 53 minutes when, after winning a lineout 20 yards out, the pack drove for the line with Hugh Goddard claiming the try.
In an almost exact replay, Niall Brogan added another try ten minutes later and once again Dempsey converted.
Templeogue had some moments of pressure in the closing stages, but CUS never allowed them to make too many inroads and, to seal the victory, captain Brian Maher ran in another try two minutes from time.
