Derry 0-18 Waterford 1-8: Divisional leaders Derry duly defeated Waterford at Walsh Park yesterday but the home side played well in the first half, at the end of which they were level, 1-5 to 0-8, with their opponents.

The goal came from a Patrick Hurney penalty two minutes from the break and it set up a surprisingly even contest through most of the second half.

Waterford trailed by just three points with eight minutes left but five Derry points to one from Waterford left seven points dividing the teams at the end.
