Derry City 4 Bray Wanderers 0: DERRY CITY put their recent setbacks firmly behind them with a comprehensive win at the Brandywell last night.
They got off to a dream start after just 25 seconds. Midfielder Ciarán Martyn charged down an attempted clearance, slipped the ball to the left to Thomas Stewart and the former Linfield player marked his Brandywell debut with a perfect cross to the far post where Gareth McGlynn headed into an empty net.
The visitors almost equalised two minutes later when Dane Massey's left-foot drive was pushed away for a corner by Gerard Doherty. Bray defender Kevin Doherty then forced a second corner when his accurate header was deflected over the crossbar.
Derry should have doubled their lead in the 14th minute but striker Mark Farren's point-blank header from Niall McGinn's cross was blocked on the goalline by defender Derek Foran.
Bray created another scoring chance in the 43rd minute but midfielder Gary Cronin's long-range left-foot shot flew inches over.
A two-goal salvo from Derry early in the second half put paid to any chance of a Bray comeback.
In the the 59th minute Farren profited from Foran's slip to chip the ball over the goalkeeper's head before firing into an empty net.
Two minutes later Stewart marked his debut with a superb left-foot volley from 12 yards.
