TONY DOBBIN'S Grand National double bid was put in jeopardy when he injured a shoulder in a fall at Hexham, yesterday.

Dobbin, fresh from his Aintree triumph on Lord Gyllene, had ridden his 73rd winner of the season when taking the opening event on Gone Ashore, but crashed out of the following Buchanan Ales Novices' Hurdle when Allerby fell at the sixth flight.

Dobbin came back in an ambulance with an injured left shoulder and he left the track immediately to visit specialist Hugh Barber in Cumbria.

Dobbin is set to partner Major Bell in Saturday's Stakis Casinos Scottish Grand National at Ayr in an attempt to become the first jockey to land the two Nationals in the same year since Brian Fletcher, on Red Rum back in 1974.
