INTERCOUNTY SENIOR CHALLENGES/ROUND-UP: An 11-point haul from Down centre forward Michael Walsh helped the visitors to a deserved draw (3-7 to 0-16) against Dublin at St Sylvester's yesterday.
Trailing by three points at the interval, Dublin got back into contention with two quick goals from Tom Mulligan and Ray Cosgrove and, although Dublin substitute Enda Crennan put Dublin back in front with a few minutes to go, Mickey Linden hit the equalising point in the last minute.
A late free by John Doyle was enough to secure a 0-16 to 0-15 win for Kildare over Roscommon in a senior football challenge game yesterday at Ballymore.
Kildare dominated the early exchanges and led by 0-6 to 0-2 at the end of the first quarter. Roscommon rallied with four points on the trot but held on to lead 0-9 to 0-6 at half-time.
The side's were deadlocked five times in the second half before Doyle's free just before the end gave Kildare victory.
Waterford proved too good for a second-string Kilkenny team in a senior hurling tournament match at Walsh Park last evening, eventually winning out by 3-20 to 2-12.
The winners, almost at full strength, led 2-13 to 2-3 at the interval.
None of Kilkenny's starting line-up against Cork on Sunday commenced the match, but Andy Comerford, Peter Barry and JJ Delaney came on during the game.
And veteran John Power took his place at centre forward, despite having played a club match immediately beforehand.
Beaten NHL finalists Cork left all their star players at home for this senior hurling challenge against Limerick at Mungret last evening, and paid a heavy price in going under 3-22 to 1-14.
Neither manager learned much from a contest that was played at a leisurely pace in brilliant sunshine, though Cork, who had a good opening period, will have been pleased with an eight-point contribution from newcomer Owen Fitzgerald.
