Dundalk 0 NK Varteks (Croatia) 4, Varteks win 9-0 on aggregate: Dundalk never came close to restoring their morale after a drubbing in the first leg as they succumbed tamely at Tolka Park, conceding four further goals while hardly threatening the Varteks goal.
Varteks made six changes to the starting side which won 5-0 at home, but they didn't let up and ensured their passage with the lead goal on the night after 21 minutes.
It was simplicity itself as their captain, Milenko Mumlek, floated a corner to the back post where central defender Matija Kristic rose unchallenged to head home.
Apart from a long-range effort from David Ward, Dundalk hadn't a chance on goal before the interval. It got worse for the outclassed National League First Division side in the second half as Varteks added their second goal within five minutes, substitute Nedin Halilovic calmly shooting to the net after Igor Jancevski and Ilami Halimi worked the opening.
To add to Dundalk's night of woe they had central defender Bryan McCrystal, booked for dissent in the first half, sent off following a second card for a foul on Halilovic five minutes later.
A mistake by Robbie Brunton gifted Ivica Huljev Varteks's third goal on 69 minutes, with Ivan Fumic drilling home the fourth 11 minutes from the end.
