Dunfanaghy GC, nestling at the foot of majestic Muckish Mountain in north Donegal, have launched a remarkably attractive membership deal. It is aimed at replenishing the club's coffers after the recent decision to buy their own land.

For £500 Dunfanaghy are offering life overseas membership. And there is a built-in bonus in that it can take the form of a family deal including mother, father and children, all for that figure.

"We think it is the best offer in the golfing world," said club vice-president, Doug Hennessy. "Our objective is to attract people from Britain, Continental Europe and even as far afield as Japan and the US. And the response so far has been most encouraging."

The delightful, par-68 links is located along a charming lagoon on Sheephaven Bay and looks across a cockle strand to Horn Head, once described as the finest headland on the Irish coastline. It was designed in 1905 by Harry Vardon and the club was officially launched the following year.

Incidentally, the head greenkeeper is listed as Paul McGinley but, although his father, Michael, is a past captain of Dunfanaghy, we are assured it is not the European Tour player doing some moonlighting, but a local namesake.
