Easy Dollar is noted

Easy Dollar can make a quick buck for punters in the Watermill Conditions Stakes at Newbury today. It is not the fault of Brian Gubby's charge that he has not managed to get his head in front on a racecourse since July 1995.

His style of running means that he is often vulnerable to a fastfinisher, as proved when second in Listed races at Doncaster and Newmarket this season, to Royal Applause and Monaassib respectively.

But, stepped up to an extended seven-furlong trip - over which he has won before - he can be rewarded for his consistency with a victory against more fashionably-bred and shorter-priced rivals.

A respectable ninth in the Cork & Orrery Stakes at Royal Ascot last time, Easy Dollar seems to be better than ever this season and has looked to be crying out for a return to this longer distance on each of his runs this term, staying on strongly at the death.

James Toller, who saddled Compton Place to land the July Cup, can land another sprint prize - albeit a less-valuable one - with Literary Society in the Shrivenham Handicap.

A game winner of a Newmarket handicap in May, Literary Society ran his heart out last time on a return visit to Headquarters on the July course.

Over five furlongs, the four-year-old chased the leaders and, responding to strong pressure, kept on resolutely close home and went down fighting by two short heads to Gone Savage in a blanket finish.

Racing off the same mark at the Berkshire course, the consistent Literary Society - set to be raised in the weights again by the handicapper for that most recent effort - is well worth an interest.
