Soccer news: England fans have bought black market tickets from Liechtenstein supporters despite the principality's strict preparations for this month's Euro 2004 qualifier, the Liechtenstein FA said yesterday.
Liechtenstein's plans announced last week to set up border controls to prevent ticketless fans from attending the match have not been helped by the fact that England supporters have acquired tickets from home fans for the March 29th qualifier.
"The people here have been selling on tickets to English fans for inflated prices and that is a worry because it means that English supporters will be among the home fans," Roland Ospelt, chief executive of the Liechtenstein FA, said.
Ospelt is confident the tiny Alpine state will deal with any possible confrontation with travelling fans on the day.
France's European qualifier against Israel should be postponed because of the impending war against Iraq, coach Jacques Santini has said.
"A postponement would be a wise decision," he said when he announced his squad for the games against Malta on March 29th in Lens and Israel on April 2nd in the Italian city of Palermo.
Brazil has been chosen by the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol) as its sole candidate to host the 2014 World Cup.
FIFA president Sepp Blatter has rejected Nigeria's plan to co-host the 2010 World Cup with Ghana, Togo, Cameroon and Benin Republic. "This idea of Nigeria is not feasible," Blatter said.
Sweden striker Henrik Larsson is to make his international return in the Euro 2004 qualifier against Hungary on April 2nd. Larsson, who announced his international retirement after the 2002 World Cup in South Korea and Japan, is likely to be in the starting line-up.
Real Madrid are set to continue their policy of signing the top stars this summer, but David Beckham is not in their plans. Beckham would probably cost more than £30 million and even Madrid would baulk at paying such a fee.
