Una English of Dublin City Harriers, was yesterday nominated for the 3000 metres in Ireland's team to compete in the European Indoor Championships, commencing in Valencia on February 27th.

English, who works as a chemist in Germany, was unable to run in the national championships because of pressure of business but was able to back her claims for selection with a couple of good runs at German meetings.

It promises to be a hectic month for the DCH athlete for on March 22nd, she hopes to accompany Sonia O'Sullivan to the World Cross Country Championships at Marrakesh. Freda Davoren, the UCC student, marked her recovery from the illness which kept her out of the track season last summer, with a 800 and 1,500 metres double at Nenagh over the weekend and as such, was a near atomatic choice for both events.

David Matthews forfeited his chance of selection, by withdrawing from the 800 metres championship at Nenagh, enabling James Nolan, his UCD clubmate, to get the nomination for Valencia.
