LIVERPOOL manager Roy Evans reflected on his side's brave failure to overturn a 3-0 first leg deficit against Paris St Germain last night and insisted: "We can look back with pride."
Evans was disappointed to lose the European Cup Winners' Cup semi final 3-2 on aggregate, but took heart at his team's 2-0 win at Anfield.
He said: "I cannot ask more of my players than that. The effort shown by my players and the crowd, who made it a wonderful atmosphere, was superb.
"I just wish we could have gone on and got that third goal and with a bit more luck we might have done.
"To be honest, we cot a bit anxious in the second half and the quality was not always there in our crossing but we showed passion and pride throughout."
Evans added that narrow semi final losses for Liverpool and Manchester United in Europe were something to take heart from and showed progress was being made domestically.
He said: "We have come another giant stride forward tonight, both Manchester United and our selves have held our own in European competition this season.
"We have left ourselves in good stead for next time round. Our whole team were fine tonight, I could not have asked any more."
