Sligo 1-16 Tipperary 0-7:JOHN EVANS resigned as Tipperary football manager following his team's 12-point defeat by Sligo at Markievicz Park yesterday.
Tipperary, who were only four points behind at the break, 0-10 to 0-6) , could only manage one point in the second half.
Colm McGee opened the scoring with a Sligo point from play in the first minute and the home side had doubled their advantage before captain Philip Austin raised the visitors’ first flag from a free in the fourth minute.
Sligo turned on the style from the start of the second half and they had tagged on another couple of points before Robbie Costigan scored Tipperary’s only point of the half after 53 minutes.
Colm McGee put the game out of the visitors’ reach with a cracking goal in the 56th minute to put Sligo nine points in front. Shane Ryan saw his goalbound shot cleared off the line by Sligo on the hour mark and thereafter the visitors’ challenge fizzled out.
