Ireland's most prolific tennis winner, Owen Casey, picked up the one title that had curiously eluded him at Templeogoe, Dublin, on Saturday when he won the men's Irish Open championship in facile manner against Britain's Nick Gould.
Casey's only concern in the decider came early in the opening game when he was broken and Gould then pounded three aces to hold serve for a 2-0 lead.
But Gould's moments of joy ended there as Casey set about changing the tenor of the match with an uninterrupted flow of games for a 6-2 6-0 success in what was the most one-sided final in the history of the event.
"This title is the one that I had wished for in over a decade," said Casey who was winning his 10th title on the domestic scene this summer - a record in itself.
Casey virtually relegated the English player to the status of a hapless spectator, was smart in choosing his shots and mainly accurate in playing them.
England's Lucie Ahl added the Leinster Senior Open title to her Irish Open won earlier this year. Her bouncy performance resulted in a 6-3 6-3 win over compatriot Natalie Grandin.
