FAI honorary secretary Kevin Fahy is seeking legal advice in advance of Thursday's board of management meeting, which will decide his future in the association.

FAI president Milo Corcoran wrote to Fahy this week questioning his competence in minute taking and criticising his refusal to approve the annual accounts.

"I will be using all means available to me to protect my reputation and integrity," said Fahy "I have talked to my solicitor but this has not come out of the blue. There has been a campaign against me since last September when Brendan Dillon and I questioned the remuneration package for (chief executive) Mr Rooney."

The FAI were not available for comment yesterday but Fahy's dismissal would remove the last dissenting voice against Rooney's leadership, and with Fahy looking increasingly isolated on the board of management, Thursday's meeting seems a foregone conclusion.

Former Eircom League chairman Brendan Dillon, who resigned in January after differences with Rooney and FAI treasurer John Delaney, has condemned the way Fahy is being treated.

"There has been no public airing of any accusations of serious misconduct against Kevin. He asked questions and received no answers," said Dillon.

Dillon also criticised the failure to introduce certain Genesis reforms: "I find it extraordinary that considering the association has had so many controversies in the last year the Irish Sports Council doesn't ask more questions of the governance. Instead they increased their grant from 1.4 million to 2 million this year."
