LYNDA RAMSDEN is expected to repel a strong southern challenge from south of England trainers and take the Kalamazoo GMS Security Ticket Handicap at Pontefract today with Fairywings.
Pontefract has long been a track popular with southern trainers and this £8,000 added event has attracted runners form the yards of John Dunlop, Barry Hills and Michael Stoute.
However, Mrs Ramsden seems to take a special delight in defying runners from the more powerful yards there and is clearly the top trainer on the course in the last five years. Fairywings should add to her tally.
The filly is much improved this term and looks set to continue on the upgrade for a while yet. She followed a close second at Redcar last month by going one place better at Beverley, scoring with a good deal more authority than a short head winning margin might suggest.
Fairywings did particularly well even to get into contention at Beverley, considering that she was held up some way off the pace in a slowly run race and met trouble in running.
The merit of her performance was underlined by runner up Daira's success at Catterick last week. Yet Fairywings has been raised only 4lb for her triumph and looks to have been given a fine chance of following up.
Her stable companions Northern Motto and Falcon's Flame both disappointed when well backed favourites last time out and are opposed in the Ironbridge Handicap.
The Mark Johnston trained Lord Of The Manor could take the prize. The colt scored with tremendous ease in maiden company at Musselburgh last month and is far from badly treated on his handicap debut,
Goretski can land the five furlongs Kemp Town Handicap at Brighton for Malt on trainer Nigel Tinkler. The three year old is in fine form at present and has the early speed which is essential on this very fast track.
Statoyork can take the honours in the opening Moulsecoomb Median Auction Maiden Stakes, having shown promise in each of his three outings to date.
