Racing English previews: Flighty Fellow can give trainer Tim Easterby a first success in the Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster today.
The four-year-old turned in some really good performances last year and looked to be an improving type in what was a very busy season.
Easterby tried him over 10 furlongs, but Flighty Fellow certainly seems to be at his best over a mile, as he showed when running Calcutta to half a length at York last October.
He was just run out of it that day, and there was much to like about his previous run at Haydock, when a length behind Desert Opal, who reopposes today.
Although some of his Lincoln rivals will have the benefit of a previous outing, Easterby is sure to have him primed for this £100,000 prize and he will lack nothing in fitness.
There are certainly some generous odds available about Flighty Fellow and it may pay to take a chance on him in a race that quite often throws up a long-priced winner.
Divine Gift can pick up where he left off last campaign with a win in the Mitsubishi Diamond Vision Conditions Stakes.
Michael Jarvis's colt did not show much until the back-end of last season, when he suddenly found his form to win a maiden here in November.
He was obviously a late-maturing type and, with another winter under his belt, could be an interesting prospect this year.
Systematic can make a successful seasonal bow in the Konica East Doncaster Shield.
Mark Johnston's five-year-old was disappointing last season after making his return from a serious injury.
Although he ran a good race when second to Mubtaker at Newbury last August, he failed to live up to that form when fifth at Baden-Baden before filling the same position in the Dubai Duty Free Arc Trial back at Newbury.
There were no obvious excuses there, but Systematic can be forgiven a couple of bad runs and he is worth another try here.
Tisho can get back on the winning track in the EBF Crandon Park Stud Mares' National Hunt Novices' Hurdle Final at Newbury. Paul Webber's mare was trying for a four-timer in a fair handicap at Sandown in January but just ran out of steam two flights from home and was eased down to finish eighth.
That may well have been a run too far considering she had won at Newbury just five days earlier, but nonetheless it was a disappointing effort.
She has been off the track since then but a break may just have freshened her up enough to take this Listed event.
