A POWERFUL display in the opening 20 minutes helped Coralstown Kinnegad to win this Westmeath SFC final against Moate All Whites team at Cusack Park Mullingar yesterday. The winners, playing against a fresh breeze, settled quickly and, boosted by a eighth minute goal by Anthony Coyne, dominated their opponents.
Coyne, Phelim Leonard, John Fleming, Joe Giles, John Cooney and Colm Coyne were continually in the thick of the action and with Fleming's goal from the penalty spot in the 20th minute Moate were in all sorts of trouble. At the interval Coralstown Kinnegad led by 2-7 to 0-3 and looked set for a comprehensive victory. However, Moate refused to throw in the towel and they gave a commendable second half display and while they shot over the points they were unable to pierce open the Coralstown Kinnegad defence for the goal they so badly needed.
