INTERMEDIATE HURLING FINAL: It took extra-time to separate the sides but Cork eventually took the All-Ireland title after a 3-15 to 1-18 victory over Kilkenny in Dungarvan on Saturday.

As the game went into injury-time, Cork trailed by three points but Rory O'Dwyer goaled to see the sides level at 2-9 to 0-15 at the end of normal time.

Kilkenny recovered, stormed three points clear, but it didn't take Cork long to respond.

Points from Rory Doherty and Maurice O'Sullivan left just two scores between the sides. Then, when Doherty raced in to score a goal, Cork had a lead they would never surrender.

AUSTRALIAN RULES: Tadhg Kennelly won Saturday's battle of the Irish against former Laois full back Colm Begley in Sydney.

Kennelly kicked his first goal of the AFL season as the Sydney Swans ran out 57-point winners (97 to 40) over the Brisbane Lions in the penultimate round of the home and away campaign.

Despite finishing on the losing side, Begley made his first AFL start after last week's debut from the interchange bench against West Coast.

The teenager has already made the fastest AFL debut of any Irish player in AFL history, although he is likely to be demoted to the rookie list as Brisbane's injured senior players return to the first team.
