Malachy O’Rourke will stay on as Monaghan senior football manager for a fifth successive season despite the county’s early championship exit this year.

O’Rourke has been hugely successful in his four years in charge of Monaghan so far, leading them to Allianz League Division Two and Three titles as well as a Division One semi-final in 2015.

After winning Ulster Championships in 2013 and 2015, they narrowly missed out on another final appearance this year after a semi-final replay defeat to Donegal.

However, the year ended on a disappointing note after a surprise loss to Longford in the All-Ireland qualifiers.
