Donegal footballer Neil McGee may well be able to line out against Roscommon in Letterkenny on Sunday despite a proposed one-match suspension.

McGee was given the option of a ban in respect of an incident after which Kerry's Alan Fitzgerald was shown a red card during the ill-tempered league match between the counties last weekend. Both counties were also fined €7,500. Donegal are also challenging that punishment.

McGee’s late application for a hearing means that according to Croke Park sources, he is “unlikely” to have the matter heard before the match takes place on Sunday afternoon.

In most circumstances he would stand suspended but, as he wasn’t sent off during a match but had the suspension recommended after investigation by the Central Competitions Control Committee, he is entitled to play pending the hearing.
