Sligo 1-12 Roscommon 1-11

Sligo knocked reigning champions Roscommon out of the Connacht under-20 Championship on Wednesday evening with a dramatic one-point win in Markievicz Park.

Eoghan Smith claimed the winning score in injury-time as the Yeats men punished a wasteful Roscommon to book a final date against Mayo.

Dessie Sloyan's side were five points down at one stage in the opening half – Jack Tumulty hit a couple of lovely points early on, before Adam McDermott was on hand to finish to the net after Oisín Cregg's initial effort was brilliantly saved.

But Lee Duignan's late first-half penalty – won by captain Jack Lavin – helped bring Sligo level by the break.

Again Liam Tully’s side edged clear in the second half, but Smith pulled Sligo level with a point from a mark as full-time approached, and he confidently dispatched the winner from play soon after, as Sligo reached their first U20 decider since 2017.

Munster U20 Hurling Championship

Clare 1-17 Cork 1-19

All-Ireland under-20 hurling champions Cork had to work hard to secure victory in their Munster championship opener against Clare at Sixmilebridge but four late points gave the visitors the win.

The home side had led for much of the game and though Cork hit the front on 44 minutes with a goal from Diarmuid Healy, Shane Meehan replied for Clare four minutes later. They were 1-17 to 1-15 in front when Keith Smyth sent over a 59th-minute free but Cork finished well with scores from Ethan Twomey and subs Eoin O’Leary (two frees) and Colin Walsh.

The Rebels struggled in the first half, with Clare having the game’s first five points, and despite Conner Hegarty and Diarmuid Cahill impressing, the Banner should probably have led by more than they did at the break.

Cork were much improved after the restart, with Walsh and Brian O’Sullivan taking the game to the hosts. Healy’s goal, set up by Daniel Hogan, had Cork 1-10 to 0-12 in front but Meehan’s superb individual effort meant that Clare led by 1-13 to 1-11 with 12 minutes left.

Ultimately, though, Cork were able to turn it around, giving them a semi-final spot ahead of a group-deciding game against Limerick next week.

Tipperary 2-21 Waterford 1-20

Tipperary booked a home semi-final in the Munster under-20 Hurling Championship after seeing off Waterford at FBD Semple Stadium on Wednesday evening.

The sides shared the first four scores before Tipp went two clear through Peter McGarry and the accurate free-taking of Kyle Shelly. Tipp went three clear on three occasions with Ed Connolly, John Campion and Jack Leamy adding points but at the other end Waterford were always a threat with Patrick and Pádraig Fitzgerald impressing as the home side went in at half-time 0-12 to 0-11 in front.

Kyle Shelly tapped home Tipp's first goal in the 32nd minute but it was cancelled out by Pádraig Fitzgerald's green flag three minutes later before an Aaron Ryan free gave Waterford their only lead of the game shortly after.

Tipp responded well and the game was still in the melting pot until Peter McGarry’s 55th-minute goal turned the game ultimately in Tipp’s favour.
