Connacht SF League/Galway 2-08 Mayo 0-09: An under-strength Galway side swept to victory over Mayo in the FBD Connacht League final at Tuam Stadium yesterday. Included among the absentees was captain Pádraic Joyce but it was the experienced players who came to the fore with Derek Savage outstanding.

Mayo had their day of woe completed when David Brady was red-carded in the dying moments.

Galway had led by 1-3 to 0-4 at the break, and with neither side scoring for 10 minutes after the restart, the introduction by Galway of Paul and Matthew Clancy had a telling impact.

Between the 40th and 50th minutes, Paul Clancy's supply set up three superb points for Savage while, on 45 minutes, Mathew Clancy received a perfect pass from Savage and buried to the net from close range.
