Rowing News: Laura Gannon was Ireland's star at the Coupe de la Jeunesse, a European Junior Championships, in Groningen in the Netherlands over the weekend.
The Neptune woman brought Ireland two silvers, winning medals on Saturday and Sunday.
And the junior men's coxless four also took silver on Saturday and just missed out on bronze yesterday.
Mick O'Callaghan of the Irish management team said Gannon's achievement was the highlight of the weekend, particularly as the level of competition was high and Gannon, a daughter of former international Pat, has another year as a junior.
"I'd say she has learned a lot from her experience here. All the crews have," said O'Callaghan.
He added that he hoped Gannon would be able to take the step up to representing Ireland at the World Junior Championships next year.
Competition in the coxless four was particularly hot, with three different medallists each day. Britain, who were gold medallists on Saturday, did not make the A Final yesterday.
Ireland's crew of Stephen Penny, Jason Wall, Niall Kenny and Edward Fitzgerald came within 0.02 seconds of taking bronze yesterday, losing out to the Netherlands.
Ireland's coxed four were fourth in the A Final on both days, while the men's quadruple won the B Final on Saturday and were fifth in the A Final yesterday.
Single sculler Mark O'Donovan could not make the A Final on either day, but won his B Final yesterday.
