Mallorca Classic:A spectacular approach on the 17th hole at Pula hauled Sergio Garcia two strokes nearer the Mallorca Classic halfway lead on Saturday.
After returning to the course to complete his weather-disrupted second round, Garcia's wedge shot 72 yards from the rough sent his ball into the cup for an eagle two, following a stunning 320-yard drive over an out of bounds house garden.
The two telling blows subsequently took him to a three-under 67 and five-under 135 for fifth place, four strokes off the lead held jointly by Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen and Jean-Francois Lucquin of France.
Garcia shares fifth spot with title-holder Niclas Fasth of Sweden, who held the Spaniard to second place last year.
Derksen and Lucquin, and the two third placed men three off the lead, Irishman Peter Lawrie and Dane Mads Vibe-Hastrup, finished their second rounds the previous day.
Several players lost out in their battles to keep tour cards by missing the cut, although former Ryder Cup player Andrew Coltart of Britain soldiered on after a narrow escape.
Three bogeys in the last five holes left the Scot, who is trying to move back into the all-time-money list with a top-12 finish in the last event to count to keep his card, right on the 143 qualifying mark.
Fellow Briton Miles Tunnicliff took a quintuple-bogey 10 on the 10th but also made the cut on 143. His 2008 card is safe.
