Garda followed up their defeat of Marlow on Wednesday in the Thames Challenge Cup with another comfortable win at Henley Royal Regatta yesterday, beating Furnivall RC by two lengths. They face the big US crew, Cascade Rowing, today.
Yesterday was a bad day for Trinity's eight; they led Exeter in the Temple but faded coming into the enclosure and were beaten by one and a half lengths. In the same event there was some consolation for the Irish with NUIG's win over Durham University by the same margin.
There were straightforward victories for UCC's Serryth Colbert in the Diamond Sculls and Neptune's Albert Maher and Sean Jacob in the Double Sculls.
Meanwhile the very elite of young Irish rowers compete this weekend in Amsterdam: the well-established lightweight four is joined by the potentially outstanding newly-formed heavyweight four of Paul O'Sullivan (19) and John Wholley (20) from the University of California, Berkeley, Sean Casey (22) from Temple University and Bruce Cummings (20) from Cambridge.
