Glasgow vulnerable on their road trips

For Connacht then, their moment of truth

For Connacht then, their moment of truth. With their European Shield hopes knocked off course by Sale, this rare moment in the TV spotlight constitutes their biggest game of the season, and even affords them a rare sniff of some silverware.

Their Celtic League profile is given added importance by the imminent emergence of a third Scottish district to compete in this competition and the moves rumoured to be afoot in Wales to have Ireland's representation reduced from four to three. Needless to say, Connacht are the target they have in mind.

Thus, progress to the semi-finals couldn't be better timed, and obtaining a home quarter-final on the back of three pool wins inside eight days gives them a real chance.

However, as their coach Steph Nel admits of Glasgow: "They're a good team, with the likes of Gordon Bulloch, Andy Nicol and Tommy Hayes. They've a solid enough pack of forwards and they can score tries."

Despite the continuing absence of some key Connacht forwards, Nel admits that "training has been going very well. We're starting to recover from our injuries. We're better off than we were four weeks ago. Hopefully. You never know."

Glasgow have lost to Leinster (39-11 in Donnybrook) and drawn at home (25-25) against Ulster, results which are in keeping with a Jekyll and Hyde, home and away mentality which has shown no sign of changing this season.

Indeed, while they are unbeaten at home in six Celtic and European ties this season, the win away to Swansea apart they have suffered heavy defeats in their other matches on the road to Leinster, Bridgend, Northampton and Glasgow.

Clearly, while they possess a greater litany of "name" players and are arguably more talented from numbers one to 15, they're vulnerable away from home.
