The on-off saga of the Go Racing media-rights deal ended yesterday at the British Horseracing Board headquarters at Portman Square in London. Discussions that lasted through the night were unable to reach the vital breakthrough as the £307 million contract was effectively killed off.
A BHB meeting ended with the board unable to sanction a licence for vital pre-race data and although meetings continued between Go Racing and the BHB, no agreement could be reached, ending the proposed 10-year deal with 49 of Britain's racecourses.
And every indication yesterday suggested that the Go Racing partnership was soon to be no more with no further meetings planned.
The consortium, made up of Arena Leisure, BSB and Channel 4 made improvements to its previous offer for the use of pre-race data, but these were insufficient for a deal to be agreed.
Christopher Stoddart, the chief executive officer of Go Racing, confirmed that no further discussions were planned.
