Only a 2-0 scoreline, in favour of Iran, will necessitate extra-time being played at the end of 90 minutes in Tehran today, in which case the golden-goal rule will apply (i.e. the first team to score in extra time will win the tie and qualify for the World Cup).

If neither side scores in the additional 30 minutes of extra-time, the tie will go to penalties.
